KEEP YOUR CONTROL. UNDERSTAND EVERY FEE.
Artist independence grows through transparent choices and accountable services.
“No middleman” is a powerful rallying cry because musicians want a closer relationship with the money their work produces. For UMG Artist, the strongest interpretation is practical: reduce unnecessary commissions, preserve appropriate ownership, and teach creators to understand the services they choose.
Digital music still involves infrastructure. Delivery providers, licensing organizations, payment systems, and collection bodies may all have legitimate roles. Direct collection opportunities depend on rights, contracts, territory, and eligibility. A campaign should explain those limits clearly rather than suggest that every royalty reaches every artist automatically.
Consider two offers. One service charges a disclosed subscription while leaving specified rights with the artist. Another takes a percentage and provides additional administration. Neither can be assessed by a slogan alone. The musician needs to compare the scope, renewal terms, accounting schedule, deductions, termination rules, and any rights granted.
UMG Artist’s education framework can make that comparison a routine part of onboarding. Ask what the provider does, what it costs, who controls the account, and what happens when the relationship ends. Keep copies of agreements and confirm how catalog transfers or withdrawals work.
The goal is independence with informed support. A useful professional earns trust by making responsibilities and compensation understandable. Artists evolve when they can make their own decisions with a clear view of both the creative opportunity and the business consequence.
